N.Z. Minister In Bangkok
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) BANGKOK, October 28. Mr T. L. Macdonald, the New Zealand Minister of External Affairs, and Mr Ishii Mitsujiro. Vice-Premier of Japan, arrived in Bangkok by the same plane today for ap unofficial visit during their homeward journeys from the Colombo Plan conference in Saigon. Mr Macdonald told reporters there should be unity of the free world and strength for scientific achievements. He said the sputnik was a challenge to the free world. A totalitarian government could concentrate on a single programme like the satellite, whereas in free countries “there are so many things to be done.” He said the Colombo Plan “is gaining in strength” with the countries reporting economic progress.
