Review Of Year's llork The Friends of Christchurch Cathedral Association made a grant of £175 towards the cost of the sanctuary panelling, says the twenty-second annual report o! the association. “With the sum of £3OO already promised and the sum of £25 given anonymously by two members, we have now been able to make the worthwhile donation of £500,” says the secretary (Miss Rose Reynolds!.
During the year 11 life members were enrolled, including five transferred from ordinary membership. Eleven ordinary members were also enrolled. Membership stands at 387. Members undertook the manning of the doors durin; the entire period of the Diocesan exhibition, which was held in the Cathedral during September. 1956. They also gave their willing services again as guardians of the Christma.tree, which is placed in the Cathedral every Christmastide. “It is gratifying to know that almost 3000 toys and £556 were handed over to the Save the Children Fund for sick ana needy children in Korea ano Austria.” Miss Reynolds says. No fewer than 367 Cathedral guides were sold during the year, making a total of 1069. Besides serving their initial purpose for the use of visitors to the Cathedral, the guides are popular as gifts to send to friends abroad.
