Leaving the field to chase the leaders on the fourteenth of the 40lap event. E. Chapman (Waitara) rode a brilliant race to win the 10mile Taranaki cycling derbv at the Labour Day sports at New Plymouth today. D. Kingsford (Waihi) and S. Laowood (Auckland) were second and third. The major event of the day, the race attracted 19 professional cyclists from many parts of New Zealand and two Australian competitors.

Chapman gained 24 points. Kingsford 22, and Lanwood 21. Th e winner’s time was 22min 42.95ec. The Taranaki Mobile Canteen Cup for the professional cyclist gaining the most points during the meeting was won by D. Swanston (Christchurch). with five points. B. Clarke (Australia), with four points, was second, and B. McCarthv (Waihi) was third, with three points
