Clauses Sought By Austria (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11.15 p.m.) VIENNA. October 27 The Austrian Chancellor, Dr. Julius Raab, said today that Austria believed the establishment of a European free trade zone was a necessity from which no country could withdraw.
He said in his fortnightly broadcast that Austria expected “her special situation will be considered by granting her several effective exceptional clauses” when the Ministerial Council of the countries concerned in the project meet next month. He said Austria’s claim was justified, as her economy was seriously damaged during the 10 years of occupation, and the fact that she had no access to the sea also was a “disadvantage which must be compensated somehow.”
