(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. October 27. The first day of the Auckland Trotting Club’s spring meeting was held at Alexandra Park yesterday in bleak and mostly wet weather. The red double —Gailard Direct, in the October Handicap, and Gentry, in the F. J. Smith Memorial Handicap—paid £34 5s 6d for £l.

Hie green (on-course) double— Silent Scot, in the Epsom Handicap, and Highland Air, in the Electric Handicap—paid £lO 6s 6d for £l. The totalisator one-course handled £99,149, including £14,317 10s on the doubles, against £107,452 5s last year. During the running of the Epsom Handicap Karaka Jack fell dead.
