h ? yea F there will be trophies Place-getters in all the li^n‘ e S P eV u nts at the trials and ";T’ ts have been arranged to cointide with those at the cup meetJP 1 * 8 s h°uld result in considerable public interest being taken in the trials. Often there has been an attendance of 2000 at the pre-cup trials and if the weadier is fine there may be a record crowd this year. Trophies valued at £202 have been given by the three Christchurch trotting clubs. Mr R A McKenzie, of Wellington. and three Christchurch business houses. Trophies to the value of £l3 10s will be awarded to the trainer gaining most points and a trophy valued at £7 7s has been given for the most successful driver. Trophies valued at £42 will be attached to the Metropolitan Club Handicap, to be run over one mile and five furlongs with a limit of 3min 33sec. This race is restricted to horses engaged in the New Zealand Cup. The New Brighton Trotting Club has provided trophies valued at £3O for the race for fast-class

trotters. It will be run over one mile and five furlongs with a limit of 3min 43sec. Trophies valued at £3O, given by the Canterbury Park Trotting Club, will be attached to a race for pacers assessed at 3min 36sec and faster for one mile and five • furlongs. The association expects that a big percentage of horses entered for the four-day Addington meeting will parade at the trials, and it is also possible that some early ■ arrivals from outside Canterbury 'will have a run. Donation Approved A donation of £2OO to assist the Hororata Trotting Club in pro-: riding stakes for its inaugural; meeting next April was approved at a meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club on Monday night. One Double Only i A decision not to run a second 'double for on-course patrons only at the cup meeting next month was made at a meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club on Monday night. The question of whether or not a second on-course double would be run at subsequent meetings was held over. I First Start i Gold Craze, which will be I making his first appearance at a totalisator meeting in the Wellcome Handicap at Oamaru on Saturday, is a member of J. J. I Brophy’s team. Gold Craze raced at the Ashburton trials recently and finished second to Rockn Roll in a maiden trotting race. He gave a bold display and looked a likely improver. He is a five-year-old gelding by Baffelan from Lustre. If he trots as well on Saturday as he did at Ashburton, it will not surprise if he is placed. To Miss Cup Unite, which was showing signs of soreness during the running of the Ashburton Flying Stakes on October 5, will not start in the New Zealand Trotting Cup. His owner-trainer. V. Leeming, said yesterday that Unite had been suffering from a blind splint. This had now cleared completely and yesterday he gave the horse his first hoppled work since Ashburton. Unite has been entered for races on the last two days of the cup meeting at Addington and if he continues to make satisfactory progress he will be taken to Auckland in December in an attempt to win his second Auckland Cup. Two-year-old Parade The record-breaking yearling colt of last season. Blue, will make his first appearance as a two-year-old in a parade to be held at Kaikoura on Monday, November 4 The Kaikoura Trotting Club has received seven entries for the parade, which will be run over six furlongs.

The other six are a filly by Court Martial f/om Flower Girl, Starfighter, a colt by Johnny Globe from Ivy Earl; General Foi. a colt by Roydelai from Ma Foi: a filly by Light Brigade from Salutation; Laurona; and a colt by Young Bob from Quite Evident. Giving Away Time The Dillon Hall four-year-old. Gentry, is giving away one second to start in the F. J. Smith Memorial Handicap at Auckland on Saturday. He could have started from 12 ■ yards in the Stewards’ Handicap, but he was withdrawn from that event. Gentry showed that he had trained on well since winning twice at Auckland last month when he won his division of a free-for-all over one mile and a half at the Epsom trials last Saturday. Gentry had his opponents well covered in the straight and won easing up by two lengths from Canyon and Single Derby after recording 3m in 18 2-ssec. Gentry is in great order at present and he is expected to be a firm favourite for this week’s race at Auckland. Intangible Colt Wins

A colt by Intangible from Lady Merus, driven by A. Bryce, won the first heat of a two-year-old parade run at a matinee at Epsom on Saturday. This colt beat a filly by Heroism from a smart mare in Mundanity by half a length after pacing his half-mile in Imin Bsec. Red Cavalier, a colt by Free Fight from Belinda Volo, finished a useful third.

The second heat was won by Haukinima. a filly by Intangible from Ayrshire Scot, the dam also of Barrington Blaze. Great Evander and Sevander.
