THIS MAP OF THE ANTARCTIC CONTINENT shows the route to be followed by the British expedition in the land crossing of the continent, with points it is planned to reach on the dates indicated. On November 27 Dr. V. E. Fuchs and the crossing party will leave the advance depot at South Ice. On December 21 they will reach the South Pole. They will meet Sir Edmund Hillary and the New Zealand party on January 10. The journey will be completed when they arrive at the New Zealand base on February 8. The New Zealanders, who have set out from Scott Base, will prepare two of the depots shown on the crossing route and carry out field work. They will be away from their base for four months or more.
