Peril Gallops Well “The Press’' Special Service DUNEDIN, October 22. A smart trial by Peril was a feature of the gallops at Wingatui this morning. Ridden by his trainer. A. I. Powell, Peril galloped over six furlongs on the plough in Imin 19 l-ssec, the I first three furlongs in the smart time of 39sec. i The Perilous gelding is engaged in I the Members’ Handicap, the main j event at Gore on Saturday, and is a I light-weight candidate for the New I Zealand Cup. I Mitre Peak (B. J. Anderton) went ; over the same ground in Imin 21 2-5 i sec, the first three furlongs in 39sec. i The Kurdistan gelding is due to rei sume racing in the Senior Spring • Handicap at Gore on Saturday. Royal Pal (H. T. Anderton) led ’practically throughout to shade Master David (R. J. Mackie) and Lucky Dewar (C A. Campbell) in Imin 20 2-ssec, the first three furlongs in 39 4-ssec. Royal Pal is a galloper of moods, but this was one of his ' bright days. ! Canon was restricted to pace work. I The Cassock gelding is in great order :at present, and is due to have his ; next race at Gore on Monday. j Foresee (R. J. Mackie) and Cassino (G. A. Campbell) ran the first I two furlongs in 25 2-ssec, and corni pleted five furlongs in Imin 6sec. Cashmere (L. W. Hare) and Allfair (A. I. Powell) dashed over half a mile in 52 2-ssec, after taking 13 2-ssec for the opening furlong. Minglow (R. J. Mackie) and Paper Clip (M. Blair) took 14 2-ssec for • the first furlong, and were not extended to complete the distance in , 54 4-ssec.
Mighty Dollar (A. N. Didham) was under a good hold in 55sec, the last three furlongs in 40 2-ssec. Captain Hunt (L. W. Hare) was given an easy run in company with a Lo Zingaro—Gold Lady filly from R. Heasley s stable in 56sec.
King Cassock (J. D. Pankhurst) and Netherhall (R. Crow) were together in 52 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 40sec. Blue Count (J. D. Pankhurst) shaded Lexiana (G. A. Campbell) and Rondel (R. J. Mackie) over half a mile, the last three furlongs in 39 2-ssec.
Meridian (M. Blair) completed a round of pace work by coming home the last three furlongs in 40sec. Ettrick John (G. E. Lowry) made light of his task over five furlongs on the outside of the course proper in Imin 8 2-ssec, after taking 28sec for the first two furlongs. Prince Consort (R. L. Murray) was not ridden out to cover six furlongs’ in Imin 22 3-ssec. He was going evenly throughout, taking 41 l-ssec for the opening three furlongs. This time was equalled by Strato <D. Dawson), which ran the first three furlongs in 40 3-ssec. The trestles were half-way out on the track.
