(Rec. 9.40 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 22.
The United Nations General Assembly was called into urgent session today to seek a solution of Syrian-Turkish differences after Saudi Arabian mediation efforts had apparently failed.
Diplomats predicted a late meeting tonight and morning and afternoon sessions tomorrow, with the probability of another late night, as East and West tried to hammer out a method to ease tension on the troubled border.
Syria, which demanded the debate six davs ago, charged Turkey with preparing an imminent‘attack. Mr Gromyko, the Soviet Foreign Minister, who backed the Syrians, said the Turks planned to attack Syria after next Sunday’s General Election, and he asserted that the United States was prodding them to do so.
