U.S. ADMIRAL BACK IN N.Z.
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. October 21. One of the men largely responsible for the American “invasion” of New Zealand during World War 11. Admiral C. Weitzell, of the American Navy, has returned to New Zealand. He was in charge of a naval armed transport division in the Pacific, brought many American servicemen to New Zealand in his transport ships and also landed the first American troops on Japanese-held Guadalcanal.
On Saturday Admiral Weitzel returned to Auckland on boart the Mariposa, with his New Zea land wife, to see New Zealant again as a civilian. They wil visit friends and relatives in thi Dominion.
They were met at the wharf by Mrs Weitzell’s son by her first marriage. Mr D. Bates, of Auckland and his family. After a short stay in Auckland they intend to travel south to visit Mrs Weitzell’s mother. Mrs E. H Watkins, of Christchurch.
