WAR PENSION INCREASE
R.S.A. Expresses Disappointment “I think we should express our disappointment at the latest war pension increase,” said Mr D. Barrett at a meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association last evening. “The Minister, when replying to our deputation, said that our demands were very moderate and would be given favourable consideration."
The Minister of Finance (Mr J T. Watts) had also said it was hoped to grant war pensions for former British servicemen and servicewomen who had lived in New Zealand for 20 years or more. The association had had about 100 inquiries as a result of this “Now they say they cannot in-1 crease the war pensions.”
The meeting passed a motion expressing its disappointment at the small increase in war pensions.
