WAIMAIRI TOWN PLANNING

Council Approves Urban Fence

The Waimairi County Council’s decision of September 19 that it obtain legal opinion on the matter of compensation claims, appeals by landowners and the granting of permits by the council for. owners to build residences on sections of 32 perches in the rural zone before fixing the urban boundary of its town plan has been rescinded.

The resolution was rescinded on the motion of Cr. P. WynnWilliams (Fendalton riding). The resolution had been adopted on September 19 on the motion of Cr. H. J. Reynolds (Harewood). Cr. Wynn-Williams moved that urban development as defined by the plan before the meeting be approved, with three provisions. The provisions were:—**(1) That the subdivision of land outside that limit be allowed to proceed if the scheme plan has been recommended io. approval by the council not later than the date of this meeting.

“(2) That building permits for houses to be erected on separate allotments in such subdivisions be granted. “(3) That future subdivisions into not more than two allotments be recommended for approval where the council is satisfied that one allotment is to be vested immediately in the owner and his wife, or her husband, as the case may be, as a joint family home.” An amendment making an adjustment to the undisclosed plan which would “not disturb the 8000 acres,” was moved by Cr. C. L. Austin (Wairarapa) and carried. Cr. Wynn-Williams’s motion was then carried. "I am definitely against urban fences,” said Cr. Reynolds. "I have fought this for the four years I have been on the council.” He would not oppose the motion, however, as he did not wish to cause any further delay, he said.
