Scouts’ Gift To Royal Children

(Rec. 7 p.m.) WASHINGTON. October 19. | A blushing, 14-year-old American boy scout climbed into the back seat of a limousine beside the Queen today and gave her gifts for Prince Charles and Princess Anne. The presentation, one of the most informal throughout the Royal tour, occurred as the President’s limousine was carrying the Queen back from the British Embassy to the White House. Il stopped at the west gate, the door opened, and Eagle Scout John Rowsey, of Arlington, Virginia spoke to the Queen. He gave her hand-carved neckerchief slides for the two Royal children. Rowsey had spoken with the Queen for a few seconds when he was invited to sit in the car with her. “I kind of stumbled out my line,” he said. "I was very nervous.”

He told the Queen that there were more than 4,000,000 boy scouts in America.

Together with the slides, Rowsey handed over the official jamboree neckerchief and parchment scrolls describing the gifts before leaving the car.
