The Wolfenden Report
Sir, —“End Legal Persecution” is wise in his protest against the indeterminate sentence proposed for so-called homosexual offences. Such a learned authority as Mr Justice Adams admitted in your columns on July 11 last that gaol was far from the remedy for homosexuals. All the world’s reputable authorities in sex psychology have long since said the same. The truth is that here we have a manifestation coming down through every civilisation, age. and generation from the dimmest antiquity. Only the moral and cultural properties of society can possibly hope to deal with it.—Yours, etc., COLONEL PRIGG. September 22, 1957.
