RHYTHMONIC'S FIRST RACE
Programme Moved Forward (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. September 2. The New Zealand stayer. Rhythmonic, equal favourite for the Melbourne Cup, will have his first Australian start in the Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick on September 14. His first race has been brought forward a fortnight because of his forward condition. N. Sellwood has been offered the mount on Rhythmonic in the Chelmsford Stakes (nine furlongs), but it is unlikely that he will accept. He already has an engagement to ride Prince Delville. Rhythmonic was not to have started until the weight-for-age Hill Stakes at Rosehill on September 28, but his trainer, C. Munro, changed his plans after he saw the stallion’s forward condition. . He is engaged in the Caulfield und Melbourne Cups, with 8-11 m both races. The Melbourne Cup is his main mission. The New Zealand-bred three-year-old Tulloch was heavily backed the Caulfield Cup today straight out, and was taken in doubles with his stablemate, Cardigan. Bookmakers now have Tulloch and Cardigan at a special quotation. The New Zealand champion stayer, Redcraze. will have his first start of the season in the Chelmsford Stakes. Yes Please, is not a certain starter for •he Epsom Handicap, for which he ts second favourite. His trainer. Maurice McCarten, said today a decision on the run by Yes Please would be made after he •uns in the seven furlongs Tramway Handicap at Randwick on September 14. "Yes Please is handicapped at 8-0 «n the Epsom, run over one mile, and the Sydney jockey. Neville Sellwood, is expected to ride him if he starts. The big New Zealand grey. Zariba, has slipped down on the betting list for the Epsom after a disappointing run in the weight-for-age Warwick Stakes at Warwick Farm last Saturday. Zariba has been heavily backed in doubles with fancied Metropolitan Handicap horses, but he still appears to be carrying a lot ,»f surplus condition. There are fears that he might not be ready to do his best by the time the Epsom comes up on October 5. Cobetto Wins Oslo Gold Cup (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) OSLO, September 1. Cobetto, owned by Prince Aly Khan and ridden by the French jockey. Jean Massa rd. won the first prize of £5OOO in the Oslo Gold Cup. run over a mile and a half today The Swedish horse Norse was second, and the Norwegian entry. Parched, ridden by the British jockey, Harn- Carr, was third of 13 runners.
