Mrs Norah Sanderson, of Templeton, has begn admitted to the New Zealand Women Writers’ Society as 'a full member, Mrs Sanderson writes short stories tor several Women’s Magazines and has had several short stories broadcast in New Zealand Broadcasting Service programmes. She also contributes to various children’s magazines and is on the writing staff of the Australian and New Zealand Joint Board of Sunday School Teachers. Mrs Sanderson has had one children s book published in New Zealand, has another under review in the United Kingdom, and is now writing a third. Mrs M. Stables, of Wellington, who died recently at the age of 84, was the first New Zealander to draw the Dominion’s attention to suffering children after the First World War, said the president of the North Canterbury committee of the Save the Children Fund (Miss M. G. Havelaar) at a meeting yesterday, f At that time, Mrs Stables collected contributions and went them to the London headquarters of the Save the Children Fund, and rave outstanding service tor many years. Miss Havelaar said. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Mrs Stables.
The monthly committee meeting of the Christchurch Society tor the Protection of Home and Family was held recently. Discussions took place on the work of the society during the month It included visits to homes, 187. callers at the office for advice .on domestic matters, 177. Two unmarried mothers were given assistance from the Sevicke-Jones Trust Fund. Twenty-one new cases were reported, and eight maintenance cases were discussed and referred to the society's solicitor A special Government grant of £2OO was received with appreciation. Mrs A. L. Smith presided. Lady Andrews gave a talk on her visit to Fiji at the August meeting of the Linwood-Avonside sub-centre of the Red Cross Society. Knitted garments were handed in for the Burwood Hospital
