Parliament Buildings Carpenter Retires

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 30.

Mr H. W. Vass, who has been the Parliament Buildings carpenter since 1919. retired today. At a farewell function this afternoon the Speaker of the House of Representatives (Sir Matthew Oram), the DeputyPrime Minister (Mr K. J. Holyoake) and the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) spoke of the high competence and geniality of Mr Vass throughout his long service.

Mr Vass, whose home is in Iziwer Hutt, was born in LytteL ton. He joined the Works Department in 1919 and was sent to work in the buildings.
