An nouncemen I By The Speaker (Neu* Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 30. The bars at Bellamys in Parliament Buildings will no longer be open on Sundays and will close at 10 p.m. on other days the Speaker <Sir Matthew Oram, announced today. This decision is believed to have been prompted by recent criticism in a national weekly newspaper that Bellamys was disregarding the .Legislature Act in remaining open beyond these hours. The" act provides that no liquor shall be sold in Parliament Buildings on Sundays or after 10 p.m. on other days, but for years drinks have been served outside these hours. During the session, the main bars are open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m, on non-sittjng days, except Sundays, and on Fridays. On sitting days the bars * are open from » a.m. until 11.30 p.m. or for half an hour after the House rises should it sit late. The Sunday hours during the session are 11 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is understood that the Government has decided noi to repeal the relevant section of the Legislature Act.
