Special Assistance Fund

Sir, —If the “hand-outs” mentioned by “Reasonable” are so wrong why has the National Party Government continued to pay them for nearly eight years? Has not it the courage to abolish these payments? Or does it think them right? The National Party at the last election, promised to give all people qualifying for the age benefit 2s 6d a week to the pension for every year they refrained from claiming the benefit. They did not keep this promise. x Do they look on these “hand-outs” just as election bait? At least the Labour Party have kept theii promises to these people. I shall talk about people on high incomes in State "houses at 19s and 22s a week when I can get space.— Yours, etc., A.F.P. August 29, 1957.
