TWO KILLED IN COLLISION
Eight Others Injured XNew Zealand Hyes* Association; AUCKLAND, August 28. Tai persons, two of whom were dead, were taken to the Whangarei Public Hospital tonight after a head-on collision soon after 5 pjn. at the entrance'to a one-way bridge at Mata, just out of Whangarei on the State highway to Auckland. The two killed were: John Diantry Birch, aged about 00, and his wife, Elisabeth Frances Birch, aged about 58, of Brown’s Bay, Auckland. They were in the front seat of a new car being driven by Sub-Lieutenant Kelvin John Lewis, aged 24, of H.M.S. Concord, who was injured. The car collided with a truck. Mr Guy Stanton Watt, aged 52, a farmer, of* Kaiwaka, the driver of the truck, his wife. Mavis Dorothy Watt, aged 32, and their five children, aged from seven to 12, all received attention at the hospital, but were not seriously injured. car driven by Sub-Lieu-tenant Lewis is practically a total wreck, and the truck is severely damaged. Traffic was held up for an hour and a half until the vehicles could be moved.
Boy Drowned In River
(New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, August 28.
A two-ytar-old boy from Hawke’s Bay was drowned in the Wanganui river yesterday. He was:
Leniel Alien Tomoana, son of Mi Huatahi Allen, of Huhaka.
The boy was at the Aramoho motor camp with his mother and stepfather when he wandered away to took at boats on the river bank and fell in.
Woman Fatally Injured
(New Zealand Press Association/ AUCKLAND, August 28.
A woman died in the Auckland Public Hospital from injuries suffered when the car she was driving collided. with a concrete delivery truck in Pitt street, Auckland, at 7.30 a.m. today. She wax: Mrs Thurza Olive Sayer, of 146 Mount Wellington Highway, Panmure, Auckland. The driver of the truck, Mr Thomas H. Aitken, aged 30, of 86 Remuera road, was admitted to hospital for observation. His condition is satisfactory.
Tractor Driver Dies Of Injuries
(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, August 27. A single man, whose parents live at Balclutha, died from injuries yesterday afternoon as a result of a tracer accident. He was: Edward William Stancombe, aged 35. Mr Stancombe was ploughing on the farm of his brother-in-law, Mr J. Caldwell, of Ferndale, and about 4.30 p.m. the tractor slipped off a bank, throwing Mr Stahcombe off the machine and causing severe injuries to the pelvis and the chest.
