NEW CASHMERE HOSPITAL
Recommendations For Staffing In general, the proposals of the Cashmere hospital commissioning committee to the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday were that oh the medical and surgical side, two of the board’s five teams should perform the work at Cashmere and three at Christchurch. The absolute need for a fluid staff organisation, and flexibility of staff between the board’s hospitals was stressed. The thoracic surgical ward would obviously be handled by the board’s existing specialist staff, reported the committee. It was proposed that the gynaecology ward should be regarded as a recognised part of the duties of the present two senior and two assistant obstetricians and gynaecologists. The presence of the proposed full-time teaching and research unit at Cashmere Hospital and the desirability of the physician superintendent having a ward of his own had also to be taken into account.
Bearing in mind the number of beds to be served, and the type of cases to be dealt with, it was considered that the generally accepted basis of 10J-14 hours weekly of service now in practice at the Christchurch Hospital should apply at Cashmere.
