Good Business For “Butchered” Play
(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) LONDON; Aug. 26. The play, “The Hidden King,” that threatened to be the biggest flop of the Edinburgh Festival, now promises to be its biggest success, says the “Daily Mail.” It is the longest, most expensive and ambitious production in the whole festival. Its “butchery” by the critics after last week’s premiere, is getting it more talked about than any other event, dramatic, operatic, or symphonic, says the newspaper. The numbers going to see the play to decide whether the critics were right is growing larger and larger as . the controversy thunders on. It now begins to look as if this fiercely-resisted piece de resistance will cover its production cost of £20,000.
