Sheffield Shield Cricket

A new points system for Sheffield Shield cricket matches in Australia will be supported by the New South Wales Cricket Association with one exception. The proposals, from the South Australian association, are aimed at brightening cricket. They include a suggestion that 10 points should be awarded for an outright win by a team that has led on the first innings, and only six points if the winning team was behind on the first innings.

The New South Wales executive, however, feels that full points should be awarded to the team winning outright, whether it was behind on the first innings or not.

The South Australian view is that there should be a special incentive to the team with a first innings lead going for an outright win, and the team in arrears already has the incentive.
