CURRENT NOTES
Advice has been received from the Trinity College of Music, London, that Mrs Catherine M. Bradley, of Addington (formerly Miss Catherine Cullen, of Ashburton), has been admitted as a,fellow, of the college in the subject of solo singing. Mrs Bradley is the eldest daughteivof Mrs and the late Mr Peter Cullen, of 34 Harrison She received her musical education in Ashburton, later teaching there until she moved to Christchurch. She is well known to audiences in both Ashburton and Christchurch as a singer. sne is the mother of three young children. ! ’ ■ ! Miss Meriel Beaumont, . the daughter of Mr and Mrs H. W. Beaumont, of Christchurch, has been appointed the South Island Youth Director of the Methodist Church of New Zealand. She will commence duties for a term of three years, on February 1, 1958.
Miss Edna Neville arranged the programme when a social afternoon was held at the Disabled Servicemen’s League yesterday. The artists were Rosemary Hewstone, Demy Jones, Ross Lloyd, Sharon Taylor, and Wayne Saville. Mrs H. A. Bishop presided and a competition was won by Mrs A. Cook. The Shirley branch of the League of Mothers held a “fathers’ night” recently, when the guest speaker was Mr H. W. Beaumont, who spoke on his impressions of Washington. The provincial president (Mrs D. G. McFadden) was presented with flowers. Members of the choir, drama circle and some of the fathers assisted with the entertainment programme.
The election of officers at the annual meeting of the Belfast Garden Club resulted as follows: patroness, Mrs Smith; president. Mrs Huntington: vice-presidents. Mrs Marwick, Messrs E. Wilson and W. Brown; secretary, Mrs Wright; committee, Mesdames McNatty, Harrold, Forrest, Crundwell, and Salt. Colour slides were shown by Mr C. Marsh.
