SOFTBALL

Montreal Team May Tour N.Z. (New Zealand. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 27. A Montreal softball team would probably tour Auckland and possibly New Zealand this year, the annual meeting of the New Zealand Softball Council was told last night. Carrying a motion by Mr C. Adamson (Auckland), members agreed to try to arrange a full tour of the Dominion by a leading overseas team. Mr Adamson said the future of softball here depended on spectator support. > His association, he added, had received an offer from a Montreal women’s club team to tour the Auckland area, and it was “fairly certain” that the team would come this year. Other delegates said they though such a visit would help “pull softball out of the doldrums.” Officers elected were:— Patron, Mr A. Jenkins: president, Mr D. T. Howe; vice-president, Mrs B. Quested; executive. Messrs W. A. Lindsay G. Marshall, V. Moors, and B. Walsh; council: North island. Mrs J. Chun (Lower Hutt), Messrs D. Brewer (Wanganui). A. N. Headifer (Taringamutu), C. R. Murphy (Palmerston North), and A J. Whelan (Auckland); South Island. Mrs Gibson (Christchurch), Messrs J. Gibson (Christchurch), R. Wrie (Dunedin), J. S. Reid (Invercargill), and C. L. Shields (Christchurch).
