Youths Apprehended Two youths will appear in the Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the attempted conversion of a van owned by Mr Max McMaster, of Kennedy’s Bush road. Mr McMaster apprehended one of the youths shortly after 990 p.m. on Saturday. Hearing someone trying to start his van Mr McMaster ran out on to the' street and caught the youths in the cab. He managed to restrain one and called the police. The second jouth rah from the van but was apprehended yesterday. Endeavour II for Breakers The yacht Endeavour 11, of 282 tons and 185 ft to the tip of her mast, the greatest of British challengers for the America’s Cup. has been sold for breaking up. Shegar seen used in the last few years fitoaa houseboat on the Hamble river. The Endeavour II was built in 1936 for T. O. M. Sopwith, who sold her in 1949. London, August 16. Influenza at Wigram About 20 men were in hospital at the R.N.Z.A.F. station, Wigram, yesterday with mild influenza The first of them fell sick about three days ago. No more cases were reported yesterday. All those sick are fir the hospital. There are about 800 officers and men living on-station at Wigram. Grocery Shop Raided A grocery shop in Christchurch was raided by police on Saturday morning after advice had been received that sly grogging activities were being conducted there. It isreported that a man bought liquor frorp the store on Friday. This raid followed the two raids oh Christchurch restaurants on Friday night, where search warrants were produced? and uniformed men -took the names of customers. 80-Dollar Dive Four United States Navy sailors plunged into the Auckland harbour on Saturday for 80 dollars. One of the men who was in danger of sinking, and the money, were brought dripping ashore. Seaman J. K. Craig, of the destroyer Buck, dropped the money while working on a staging slung over the side. He plunged in after it, but his mate. Seaman A H. Cane, saw he was npt going to reach it and he, dived in too. He got the money but felt. himself going under and called for help. Bosun’s Mate T. R. Magnus and Seaman R. A. Stockdale dived in from the wharf and brought Seaman Cane, still clutching the 80 dollars, ashore.—P.A.) Air Chief in Malaya A helicopter dropped into the humid atmosphere of Tengah, Malaya, at the week-end, carrying the Chief of Air Staff (Air ViceMarshal C. E. Kay), who was paying a visit to the two Malayabased Royal New Zealand Air Force units—Nos. 14 and 41 Squadrons. Air Vice-Marshal Kay reviewed a parade commanded by Flight Lieutenant M. F. Drive-in Cinemas The move which has been made towards the establishment of an open air, drive-in cinema in Christchurch has the full support of the Cerebral Palsy Welfare Association, according to its ggcyitgtawsletter.
