Results were:— Digby’s 5, Aranui K - University 5, Teachers* College L Harewood 4, Rawhiti 3. Christchurch West ■l, Carlton 1. DIGBY'S v. ARANUI Aranui played good hockey, especially on defence. However, two players snort, Aranui was beaten by Digby’s by 5 goals to 0. The halves kept well up but had to rush back to hold the Digby’s forward raids. Strong clearing and good interception by both teams were notable features of the game. Digby’s defence was very sound and the speed and ball control ,of Mellam, at centre forward, proved tc»o much for the overworked Aranui defence. The Aranui forwards were unlucky in not having a full line and did well to beat all but the goalkeeper several times. Digby’s won by 5 goals to 0. UNIVERSITY V. TEACHERS' COLLEGE University was assured of this season’s championship by Its win over Teachers’ College by 5 goals to 1. University won because of better cohesion and it concentrated on right wing attacks. The Teachers’ College team held off the strong attacks but did not show team work on attack. In that way it lost scoring chances. The leadership of M. Edwards, of the University, was outstanding, as she was the spearhead of many raids and was quick to intercept the College passes. University beat Teachers’ College 5-1. HAREWOOD V. RAWHITI Although the. ball control of some players in the Harewood-Rawhiti match was good, there was little constructive hockey and the game was rather scrappy. Hare wood won by 4 goals to 3. Again it appeared that far too much body was used. Players should have remembered to get the ball and not to use a wrong side tackle nor cross in front of players and obstruct them. Defence was strong on both sides and the halves played hard. Harewood won 4-3. CHRISTCHURCH WEST V. CARLTON Christchurch West played more as a team and did not tend to bunch as much on attack as did Carlton. West also switched play with some strong hitting. Carlton could not gain any clear shot* at goal and did not show its usual combination in the forward*. The halve* and backs supported well but the forwards could not pierce the West defence. West was unlucky not to score more goal* but overeagerness and some lucky defence by Carlton stopped any likely shots. Christchurch West drew with Carlton, 1-all.
