BOYS’ CLUB NAMES NEW PREMISES
Mr Jack Bruorton Honoured Bruorton House will be the name given to the new premises of the Crichton Cobbers’ Club, nbw nearing completion in the former Ward’s brewery in Fitzgerald avenue. This is sion of the club management committee, announced last evening. In this way thq club will honour its founder and present director, Mr Jack Bruorton. Mr Bruorton was for 25 years on the traffic staff of the Christchurch City Council and was chief traffic officer for 10 years until 1946. He was born at Up-ton-on-Severn and came to New Zealand in 1910. The gymnasium, covering a considerable part of the 15,000 square feet of the building acquired by the club, will be known as the McKenzie Gymnasium, in recognition of the interest and support of the late Sir John McKenzie “The new premises will provide facilities for all types of sporting activities and the extended area will mean the elimination of the waiting lists which have been necessary in recent years,” continues the club's announcement.
The managei lent committee hopes that the club will. soon be able to mo- from its old rooms in Peterborough street.
Businessmen's Lunch
The Minister of Finance (Mr J. T. Watts), will speak to members of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce during a lunch in the chamber’s hall next Monday. This will be a return to the chamber’s practice of holding lunches and will be the first of a series, if the idea appeals to members.
