Car Hits Tree Near Queenstown

(New Zeaiana Press Association) xNVERCARGILL, Aug. 18.

A 20-year-old student of Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, was killed in a motor accident half a mile from the Kawarau dam on the InvercargillQueenstown highway between 6 p.m. and 7 pjn. on Saturday. He was: George Whitefield Armitage, eldest son of Mr and Mrs George Whitefield Armitage, snr. of “Willowbank” Wendon, near Gore. Mr Armitage was a passenger in a car ,/hich left the road and struck a tree. The driver of the car, Mr Alan Gardener, an Australian, was taken to the Frankton Hospital, Queenstown, but wps unhurt. *. An inquest for identification was opened in Queenstown before the Coroner (Mr J. Keen).
