Keeping In With The Joneses
PORT GORDON (Georgia), August 14. The name “Jones” spells trouble to the commander of an eight-man Army squad here. Each member of the squad is named Jones. The trouble started after the men arrived from Port Jackson, South Carolina, to begin eight weeks of basic training. To make the assignment of the men faster and easier, they were placed in platoons alphabetically as they stepped off the buses.
The eight Jones boys got together at Fort Jackson and came to Fort Gordon on the same bus.
So, included in the one squad are Privates Billy R., Daniel E., Guy R., Henry C., John W., William C., William H.. and Willie Jones.
