FIRST NATIONAL ANTIQUE FAIR

Palmerston North Display

A national antique fair, the first of Its kind to be held in New Zealand, was opened in Palmerston North this week by the Mayor (Mr W. B. Tennent). Dealers from all over the country are taking part in the fair and a special display has been arranged by the Dominion Museum. Mr Tennent said that no effort had been spared by antique dealers to bring to the fair the best in antiques and it would do much to awaken a national interest in and an appreciation of the beauty of the arts and crafts of older times. “Many people do not appreciate the value of fine furniture in modern settings,” he said. “As one writer said, when writing about this fair: ‘No-one need feat mixing period and contemporary furniture provided common sense is used? ”

Th 6 fair, at which all items displayed by dealers will be for sale, will continue until Saturday.
