Oil Sought In Sydney Area
(N.Z. Press Association—Coppngntt MELBOURNE, August 2. The search for oil .- in Australia has been extended to the Sydney basin. The Minister of National Development (Senator Spooner) said yesterday that preliminary tests to try the effectiveness of the seismic method of prospecting in the basin had been concluded by the Bureau of Mineral Resources. A Sydney company, which held prospecting rights for the area, had asked, for the tests. The tests had proved that the seismic method could be applied effectively in the basin. The Sydney basin is a geological term covering the rock formation in an area, roughly triangular in shape, extending from about 100 miles south to 100 miles north of Sydney, and about the same distance inland.
