The Prime Minister (Mr Holland) will make a private visit to Christchurch next week-end. He will leave Wellington on Friday evening and will return on Monday. Mr Holland has' no public engagements in Christchurch.— • P.A.) Mr D. B. Sawyer, reader in mathematics at the University of Otago, has been appointed to the chair of mathematics, to succeed Professor R. -M. Gabriel; who died »n February.—(P.A.) Mr F. W. Aickin. a former General ' Managpr"' of Railways, has been posted- to the Army’s Retired List with the rank of honorary colonel. Mr Aickin served in the First World War and in the Second World War served as a major in the 16th Railway Operating Company in the Middle East from 1940 to 1943. He was awarded the 0.8. E. in 1942. Mr E. V. Elder has been appointed joint manager for Australia and New Zealand of the Atlas Assurance Company, Ltd. The company’s manager for Australia and New Zealand is Mr L. Pettitt.
