(HZ. Press Association—CopvrtaM, (Rec. 10 pm.) CHICAGQ July 29. Rioting between negro ana white picnickers sent 100 policemen to restore order in a crowded park yesterday. More than 40 persons were treated for injuries, mostly cuts and bruises from stones and other, missiles, but one white mu suffered a six-inch knife wound on his neck and shoulder. Constable John Olson, who saw the disorder, said it began When a group of “50 or 60” white men gathered on a nearby railroad embankment and threw stones at about 75 negroes. But police said several other witnesses told them that the fighting began after a negro boy left his group and threw sand at a white girl who was eating an led cream. The windows of several of the 23 police cars and five patrol waggons sent to the scene were broken by rioters. One negro detective said he had to draw his gun to disperse several white youths who surrounded him in his car.
