OTAGO MUSEUM EXTENSIONS

Government Grant Of £40,000 (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. July 16. The Government has made a grant of £40.000 to the Otago Museum Trust Board for the building of the new wing and extensions to the Otago Museum which will form the centennial memorial of the province Mr Walden Fitzgerald, chairman of the board, said today that; sketch plans had been drawn up, and the rough estimate of the cost of the project was £144,000, said Mr Fitzgerald. The Government had been approached for a grant of £50,000 to bridge the gap between the estimate and the money in hand. Although the grant was £lO,OOO less than that asked for, Mr Fitzgerald said that it was sufficient to guarantee the project.
