MATCH WITH N.Z. UNIVERSITY
Canterbury Players May Be Unfit
There seems every possibilftjr that the Canterbury team to meet New Zealand University at Lancaster Park on Saturday will be a scratch one. Canterbury will be without several of its university players, and injuries in the last two weeks may prevent several other players from taking the field. The forward selector (Mr N. J. McPhail) said last evening it was not fiossible at that stage to announce he team because it was not known whether several players would be fit. It was reported to him that S. F. Hill had several stftches inserted in the mouth after a match at Bumham last week.
Other players who could not train yesterday because of injuries were M. F. Whitta (Sydenham), halfback: A. Pearce (Old Boys), first five-eighths; D. McMillan (Ellesmere), lock; and H. C. Burry (New Brighton), No. 8 or side-row forward. Whitta is reported to have injured hig ribs. Pearce had a bruised leg after Saturday, McMillan has a sore shoulder, and Burry has a hand injury. S. G. Bremner, who is to play for South Island Universities against North Island Universities on Wednesday. left the field on Saturday and later had several stitches inserted in a cut above the left eye.
