Table Tennis FINAL HANDICAP TOURNAMENT
B. Heseltine Wins Singles. The final night of the Canterbury Table Tennis Association’s annual series of handicap tournaments was held on Saturday. There were 47 entries, from 20 clubs, in the third and fourth grade singles eVent, which was won by B. Heseltine (Harlequins) . Heseltine, who also won the fifth and sixth grade singles two weeks ago, beat E. Grange (Woolston) iu the final. Grange, a pen-grip player, had defeated J. Kyle (McDonald Motors) fairly comfortably in the semi-finals.' A Sheffield pair, A. Swanson and J. H. Rich, won the third and fourth grade doubles event, and. Rich, playing with Mrs T. Swanson, was also successful in the finaL of the second grade rpixed doubles. Results were:— Third and Fourth Grade Singles.— Quarter-finals: E. Grange (plus 9, Woolston) beat A. Alabaster (plus 7, South Brighton), 21-19. 21-19; J. Kyle (minus 1, McDonald-' Motors) beat A. Dawson (plus 2, Sheffield), 22-19, 2219; B. A. Heseltine (phis 9, Harlequins) beat H. Sobiecki (plus 7, Motorways), 21-19, 21-17; G. Adam (plus 1, Linwood) beat W. Stokes (plus 7, South Brighton), 21-17, 2117. Semi-finals: Grange beat Kyle, 22-14, 22-14; Heseltine beat Adam, 21-5, 21-15. Final: Heseltine beat Grange, 21-16, 21-15. Third and Fourth Grade Doubles. —Final: J' H. Rich and A. Swanson (plus 2, Sheffield) beat C. A. Clarke and G. Adam (scr. National Airways). 17-21, 21-12, 21-10.
Second Grade Mixed Doubles.— Final: J. H. Rich and Mrs T. Swanson (plus 4, Sheffield) beat A*. Bond and Mrs G. Magan (minus 2, Papanui), 23-10, 19-23, 23-19.
