N.Z. MINISTER SEES DULLES
Information On “U.S. Thinking”
(Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, July 12. Mr T. L. Macdonald, New Zealand’s Minister of External Affairs, will report to Cabinet, on his return home, the latest United States thinking on partial disarmament and the recent purge of Soviet leaders.
These subjects were discussed extensively at an informal meeting today between Mr Dulles, the Secretary of State, and Mr Macdonald, and later at a private luncheon which Mr Dulles gave for Mr Macdonald at the State Department. t
“The talks were most informative,” Mr Macdonald said. “Mr Dulles really was ‘thinking out loud’ and the outline he gave on these two matters will prove very valuable.
“When I return home I will be able to report to Cabinet on the discussion and Mr Dulles’ views will help us to arrive at a better understanding.” Mr Macdonald, who was accompanied on his call at the State Department by Sir Leslie Munro the New Zealand Ambassador in Washington, w'ijl arrive' in New Zealand by air late next week. Mr last saw Mr Dulles at the South-east Asia Treaty Organisation meeting in Canberra in • March and he . explained that- his visit at fhe State Department was primarily a courtesy call. “But I also had the idea of getting brought up to date on mat ters such as those we discussed today,” he said.
