JOLLY GOOD FELLOWS EVERY ONE
Here you see our leaders three With vodka, bortsch and Burgundy, With caviar and cocktails toy mg Their well-earned leisure much enjoying, They smile, they chat, they crack their joke, In short, behave like decent folk, And now and then they drink a toast To Lenin’s or to Stalin’s ghost; One thing they do which might suggest Some secret lurking in the breast, Some hint of perfidy or guile Behind the jesting and the smile; For, look you, as they lounge or stroll Or dip into the flowing bowl Each one of them may oft be seen Casually, the toasts between, To give a hearty, friendly smack Upon the other fellow’s back, And then, as if by idle chance, Take careful note of circumstance, The dinner jacket subtly eye With a sidelong glance and sly r Privily to discover just Where the keen blade may best be thrust.
