Wresiling AUSTRALIAN TEAM ARRIVES

Three-Week Tour Of N.Z.

A team of 12 Australian amateur wrestlers, accompanied by their manager (Mr E R. Hayman) and their judge-referee (Mr R. E. Garrard) arrived al Hardwood Airport yesterday afternoon from Sydney to begin their three-weeks’ tour of the Dominion Their aircraft was delayed for one hour by a 60-miles-an-hour head wind encountered soon after leaving Australia.

Mr Hayman, a New Zealander by birth, was a former Auckland provincial champion, and runner-up for the New. Zealand feather-weight title in 1939. He expressed regret that Australia had been unable to send a heavy-weight with the team, to wrestle with Tohn Silva, of New Zealand.

One of the most travelled wrestlers in the world, Mr Gerrard, the judgereferee. said he was making his fourteenth overseas trip. He has represented Australia at four Olympic Games and four Empire Games. After last year’s Olympic Games in Melbourne, he retired from competitive wrestling, aged 46. He now devotes his time to judging and coaching.

The members ol the team were all fit and well, said Mr Hayman They would leave for- Dunedin this morning to begin the tour with a match against Otago.
