IN Z Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 8. More than 700 persons were killed in violent accidents throughout the United States during the long Independence Day holiday period. The toll for the 102-hour period from 6 p.m. on July 3 to midnight showed 419 persons lost their lives in motor accidents. Drowning also took a heavy toll, with 201 reported. Miscellaneous accidents caused 99 deaths, for a total of 719. Later reports were expected to increase the total. The road deaths compared with the record traffic toll for a July 4 holiday period of 491 set during the four-day holiday in 1955. The National Safety Council, in a preholiday statement, had estimated that this year’s total would reach 535.
