1955-56 Value Of Production
An increase of 4 per cent, was estimated in the value of production for the production year, 195556. The value of production was estimated at £589.700,000. an increase of £21.200.000 on 1954-55. This was a lower percentage increase than those recorded for the three previous years of 12, 8, and 9 per cent, respectively. Giving these figures, a report by the Government Statistician (Mr G. F. Wood), said the major part of the increase was in the factory group, from £151.400.000 to £163.600,000, or £12,200,000. Value of farm production rose from £322.600,000 to £326,200,000, an increase of £3,600,000.
The volume of production for all groups rose by 4 per cent., the farming group showing a rise of 3 per cent., and the factory group a rise of 6 per cent. The index of volume of production a head of population rose by 2 per cent, over the period.
These statistics do not represent the total value of all goods produced and services rendered, but relate only to the production of material commodities.
