DISTRIBUTION OF PERMITS
Claim Of Political Interference
He was sorry to see political interference, said the president (Mr W. M. Ollivier), discussing permits at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s annual meeting last evening. Permits were still a problem, he said, but over the years the racing and trotting conferences had overcome all difficulties most satisfactorily. However, in current times “I am sorry to see instances of political interference.” The latest attempt at political interference was a Private Bill to be moved in the House of Representatives by Mr R. Boord. The bill provided for a Governmentappointed commission to be entrusted with permits and he hoped it would receive the reprobation it deserved, said Mr Ollivier.
