Complaint On U.S. Wheat Surpluses

The Prime Minister, Mr John Diefenbaker, yesterday accused the United States of violating the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade in what he described as its

“fire sale” in disposing of wheat surpluses.

Mr Diefenbaker who. spoke at a press conference after his return from the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference in London, said that the Canadian Government had not decided whether to make formal protest against the actions of the United States.

He said that expectations were that the next session of the Canadian Parliament would be opened by the Queen on October 14 but the date was not yet firm.
