North Linwood Wins Again
North Linwood had to fight hard to maintain its unbeaten record when the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s winter competition was continued on Saturday. The Woolston team provided unexpectedly stiff opposition, and was beaten by only 8 sets to 6, after the match had been evened at 3-3. If Woolston had not been forced to default one singles match, the team might have won. The Cathedral team has withdrawn from the competition. For several weeks it has had difficulty in fielding a full side, and it has not won. After six rounds, points are:—North Linwood 6, Waimairi 4, Woolston 4, Avonside 4, Opawa 3, Elmwood 2, Ellesmere 0. Results were :• Waimairi v. Avonside Singles.—W. Thom lost to F. Horgan, 6-8, 6-4, 0-6; J. Beddis beat B. Southam. 7-5, 6-1; A. Knight lost to F. Commons, 4-6. 3-6; E. Woods lost to J. Southam, 0-6, 3-6. Doubles. —Thom ‘and Beddis beat Horgan, and Commons, 6-4, 6-0; Knight and Woods lost to B. Southam and J. Southam, 6-4, 3-6, 6-8. Avonside won by 4 matches to 2. North Linwood v. Woolston Singles.—T. Harneiss beat B. Lane, 6-1, 6-3; J. Beatty beat R. Neumann, 6-4, 6-4; R. Innes lost to J. Logie. 6-1, 7-9, third set defaulted; J. .Ewart lost to D.. Forbes, 2-6, 1-6. I Doubles.—Harneiss and Beatty beat Lane and Neumann, 6-3, 6-3: Innes land Ewart lost to Logie and Forbes, !6-l. 1-6. 3-6. North Linwood won by 8 sets to 6. - Opawa v. Elmwood I Singles.—T. Jackson lost to G. W. Goodwin. 4-6. 1-6; N Baas lost to L. Martin. 2-6. 2-6;- M. Crozier beat R Christie, 6-4, 6-4; R. Burney beat |G Evans, 6-2. 6-2. ; Doubles.—Jackson and Baas lost to Goodwin and Martin, 1-6, 7-5, 4-6; Cmri«r and Burney lost to Christie and Evans. 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Elmwood won by 4 matches to 2.
