KNOX A BEATS UNIVERSITY Sixth-Round Matches
Knox A had a comfortable victory over University B in the sixth round of the Canterbury Badminton Association’s competitions. Knox was without R. Pattinson, who has a leg injury which may prevent him from playing for the remainder of the season.
Chiam See Tong and A. Roberts played a very fast and energetic game, but neither showed top form. Chiam’s poor serving made his task harder, especially in the first set. Roberts showed a weakness in his backhand, and Chiam exploited this in the second set.
In the second men’s singles, I. George, who was replacing Thng Yong Huat in the University side, showed unexpectedly good form in his match with C. Snook. Apart from relying too much on his long reach, George showed promise. Snook smashed powerfully throughout, and his overhead shots were more consistent. In the third set, Snook served particularly well. Miss B. Webster played her usual attractive game to beat Miss B. Nelson in two sets. The left-handed Miss Nelson was not at her best, and could not match Miss Webster’s smashes. Results were:— Knox A v. University B Singles.—A. Roberts lost to Chiam See Tong, 15-17, 6-15; C.
