CONFUSION OVER GROUNDS
The wet weather last week, the many football grounds under water, and the subsequent transfer of games to drier grounds led to confusion at Athletic Park on Saturday. Due to play at 1.15 p.m., Christchurch and Merivale senior players, transferred from Rugby Park, arrived to find matches in progress on both grounds. The No. 1 ground was occupied by Albion and Linwood B under 16 B grade teams. On No. 2 ground, High School Old Boys and Teachers College second division teams were in play, after being transferred from Lancaster Park oval.
After a discussion between Rugby Union officials and senior players, it was decided to play the senior match on the No. 2 ground at 2.45 p.m. The No. 1 ground allocated for the match was very muddy and the west end partly under water. Waiting for the senior game, spectators and players watching the under 16 B match saw Rugby played in poor conditions, young Rugby players wet and muddy, splashing through the pools of water covering sections of the ground.
