BOY STRUCK BY CAR
Driver Fails To Stop A boy who was struck by a car while cycling in Bowhill road, North New Brighton, about 7.15 p.m. yesterday suffered shoulder and hand injuries. He is Kevin ’O’Keefe, aged about 12, of 108 Bowhill road.
The boy was cycling east along Bowhill road near his home when a car struck him just after it had overtaken another cyclist travelling west. The boy was thrown to the road. The driver of the car did not stop, and late last evenifig had not reported the accident to the police. The police are anxious to trace the driver of the car, which is thought to be a small, earlymodel Austin or Singer car, dark green in colour. Extensive inquiries are being made. O’Keefe was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital by a St. John ambulance. After treatment at the hospital, he was able to return to his home.
Woman Killed When Truck Leaves Road
(New Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREI, July 5.
A widow, mother of eight children, was killed instantly yesterday afternoon when the truck in which she was a passenger left the Kaikohe-Mataraua road at Te Iringa, five miles from Kaikohe, crashed down a 60ft bank, and ended up in a stony creek.
She was: Mrs Kahimakaka Wipou, aged .42, of Wihongi street, Kaikohe.
The driver of the truck, Robert Earl Gray, aged 20, driver, of Kaikohe, received injuries and shock, and after medical treatment was taken to the Bay of Islands Hospital at Kawakawa. His condition is not serious.
EIFFELTON FARMER FOUND SHOT
An Eiffelton farmer was found dead with a rifle wound in his body, on his property about 12 miles from Ashburton on Thursday morning. He was: Norman Garfield Bauerle, a married man with two children.
The body was discovered by the driver of a dairy truck who was passing the property about 9.30 a.m. when he heard a rifle discharge. On investigation, he found Mr Bauerle’s body in an implement shed with 9 .303 rifle lying nearby. The Ashburton police are investigating. .
Woman Still Seriously Hl Miss Marian Addinell, of Downes road, Horrelville, who was injured in a collision between two cars at the corner of Tram road and Early’s road, West Eyreton, on Thursday afternoon, is still on the seriously ill list in the Christchurch Public Hospital, although her condition is now described as fairly satisfactory. Mr Sidney W. Harrison, of 17 Maling street, Avonside, who was injured in the same accident, and was also admitted to the hospital, is now in a satisfactory condition.
