Table Tennis SUNDAY PLAY EXTENDED

The Canterbury Table Tennis Association’s annual grade championships will be played on Sunday nights, in an effort to attract greater entries. This was decided at a meeting of the executive committee of the association last night. In presenting a report on the annual handicap tournaments, Mr D. D. M. Stewart said that entries were only half last year’s figure, which in turn had been considered low. The change to Saturday nights for the tournaments had not been successful, said Mr Stewart. On the motion of the secretary (Mr E. D. Kwok), it was decided to change to Sunday nights for the grade tournaments.

My P. A. Williamson reported on the difficulty of securing a suitable hall for the Canterbury championships. It was decided to play these over one week-end. August 23, 24, and 25. This was the only available week-end in August, said Mr Williamson.

The date for the representative fixture with North Otago was confirmed as Saturday, August 3. The match will toe played at Oamaru, and the Canterbury team will consist of four men, four women, and four junior boye.
