ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED

West Eyreton Collision

An elderly woman was killed and her sister and a man injured when two cars collided at the corner of Tram road and Early’s road, West Eyreton, about 4 p.m. yesterday.

The woman killed was: Alice Ida Addinell, a single woman, of Downes road, Horrelville.

A sister of the dead woman, Marian Addinell, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital. Last evening she was on the seriously ill list. The two women were driving along Early’s road towards Cust. The driver of the other car, which was travelling along Tram road, was Mr Sidney W. Harrison, of 17 Maling street, Avonside. He was also admitted to hospital. Late last evening his condition was fairly comfortable. The injured were treated at the scene of the accident by Dr. H. T. Knight, of Oxford, and then brought to Christchurch by a St. John ambulance. Both cars were badly damaged.

PINNED UNDER TRACTOR Farmer Digs Himself Free

Nearly nine hours after he had been pinned by a capsized tractor in the mud of a farm road yesterday, Mr Francis William Chapman, aged 39, crawled to the door of a relative’s house in Happy Valley, Umawera, Hokianga. Though he had been trapped by the weight of the tractor on his left shoulder and the arm was broken close to the shoulder, he had dug himself free with his fingers and a screw driver. He was admitted to the Kaitaia Public Hospital. Mr Chapman lives alone on his farm. He was expected at the home of a cousin, Mr W. Chapman, who lives four miles away, but as it was raining no particular notice was taken of his failure to arrive. However, all through the afternoon he had been lying a few hundred yards away under his machine.

Car Passenger Dies Of Injuries

(New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, July 4.

An elderly woman suffered fatal head injuries in a collision between a taxi and a truck on the State highway at Rata about 1.15 p.m. today. She was: Mrs Matarena Hunia, a widow, aged about 75, of Nukuhau pa, Taupo.

Mrs Hunia was a passenger in the front seat of the taxi, the driver of which suffered slight facial injuries.

Woman Struck By Car

A woman was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital yesterday morning and placed on the seriously ill list after she had been struck by a car in Springs road, near Amyes road, Hornby. She is Mrs Clara Osborne of 168 Springs road.
